The year was 1863. A courthouse capture of 42 union soldiers had just taken place in Fairfax, Virginia. According to lore, the confederate army also happened upon a bag of ransacked family heirlooms from General Edwin H. Stoughton, a wealthy local plantation owner. Before they could make it a union interception thwarted their plans. General Mosby strategically hid the treasures deep in the woods "between two pine trees". And though he marked an ‘X’ to guide him back upon return, the treasure remains undiscovered.
